About Us
We are two first-generation Mexican American women from Southern California who turned our shared passion for jewelry and fashion into something more meaningful - Yemaya Mermaids.
Our journey began with a deep appreciation for artistry and the stories behind handcrafted pieces. We handcraft select sterling silver pieces in-house, infusing our collection with a personal and artisanal touch. Here at Yemaya Mermaids, we hand pick every natural stone seen on our handmade pieces. Our newest venture is working with leather/cowhide goods handcrafted completely in-house. We choose the leather we like to work with and create bold one of a kind pieces that you won't see anywhere else.
Our love for travel has taken us across the globe, where we've connected with artisans whose work also deserves to be seen and celebrated internationally. Many of the pieces you'll find here are one-of-a-kind, created with intention and heart - not mass produced. Our collections include a diverse range of artisan-made treasures from all over the world that fit well with our brand.
The name Yemaya Mermaids holds deep significance for us. Yemaya , the ocean goddess, is often adorned in powerful jewelry and represents nurturing, strength, and the sea - values that resonate deeply with us. And mermaids, like us, are drawn to the ocean. It's where we feel most alive, most at home, and most inspired.
Thank you for being here and supporting a dream rooted in heritage, creativity, and connection.
YEMAYA
Yemaya (or Yemoja) is a powerful, revered mother goddess in Yoruba, Santería, and Candomblé traditions, known as the Queen of the Sea, representing all waters, motherhood, fertility, and nurturing love,
syncretized with the Virgin Mary, and honored with blue/white colors, pearls, and offerings of white flowers and fruit, especially in maritime celebrations like Brazil's New Year's Eve offerings. She's the "mother of all Orishas" and humanity, embodying creation, protection, and the powerful, sometimes destructive, force of water, from gentle tides to tsunamis, symbolizing life's cradle and grave
Why Our Mermaid Has Horns:
Our mermaid isn’t just any mermaid—she’s born of earth, fire, and saltwater magic. The horns in her design are a bold symbol of our roots and our essence: a reflection of Capricorn and Aries.
Capricorn, the sea goat, lives between worlds—grounded, resilient, and deeply connected to both the earth and the sea. Aries, the ram, brings fierce passion, courage, and an unstoppable fire. Together, these horns represent duality and power: the balance between calm and chaos, softness and strength, the steady climb and the fearless leap.
Our horned mermaid is a reminder that magic doesn’t always look delicate—sometimes it’s wild, grounded, and unapologetically strong. Just like us.
